PS4 gets temporary price cut in UK - £329 this weekend only

Sony has temporarily reduced the price of PlayStation 4 to £329.99 for this weekend only.

GAME, Amazon, Tesco, Asda, Argos and ShopTo.net have each reduced the black 500GB console to around the £329 mark, knocking £20 off the usual retail price.

If you're interested in grabbing one at the lower price, though, be sure to shop around tomorrow or Sunday. According to Sony, the price cut is only valid this weekend, with the console expected to return to its regular price on Monday.

The promotion means that PS4 is now available for the same price as an Xbox One, which was cut to £329.99 last month.

Sony announced last night that PS4 had sold 13.5 million units worldwide since going on sale last November.

Here's 10 minutes of new Final Fantasy XV gameplay footage

Almost 10 minutes of new gameplay footage for Final Fantasy XV has appeared online, offering a closer look at what to expect from Square Enix's upcoming JRPG.

The video opens with the four lead characters driving around the world in their open-top car before hopping out to have a jog through the forest. While the quality of the footage isn't great, it gives fans an opportunity to take a look at the game's day/night cycle, some new flying vehicles and the vast landscape they'll get to explore.

Access to a playable demo of Final Fantasy XV will be included with next March's Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, but don't expect to see the full game any time soon. A release date for the final release has yet to be confirmed.

13.5 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide since launch last November, Sony has announced. 3.3 million of them were sold between July and September 2014.

In comparison, 800,000 PS3s and 700,000 PS Vitas, PSPs and PlayStation TVs were sold during the same three-month period.

Sony notes that it has also seen a "significant increase in network services revenue related to the introduction of the PS4", suggesting a surge in PS Plus subscribers or digital content downloads.

Microsoft has not updated its sales figures for Xbox One since April when it announced that the console had shipped 5 million units.

The impact of numerology over the names

Whenever an infant is born into a family, it’s a norm to first assess him/her with a name. The name of a person is just not a word to be referred to them but actually is the definition, a description of their personality and the briefing of their traits. It should be made very sure that while naming a person all the necessary measures are taken care of. They say that labeling of a product is done properly to define the quality of that product. The same theory can be applied upon assessing names to the young ones too. The better the name the more illustrative would be the definition.

While a lot of people who believe in ancestry, name their children on the basis of their legacy or the family trees, while others who believe in Numerology have different opinions. The people who believe in numerology work and practice a lot with numbers before naming their kids. In numerology each letter of your name is said to have an individual corresponding number. Cornerstone is said to be the first letter in your name while capstone is said to be the last one. Under Numerology the first vowel is also given sheer importance, as it is said to fulfill all your urges and dreams in life. Each and every letter in this section has a meaning of its own and preparing a name with all those combine meaningful letters will eventually make out the best desired result. The sum of the numbers in your birth date and the sum of numbers you make out while naming a person displays a great deal in the character, the future, the strengths and the weakness of an individual. Numerology helps in standing and fighting against all these weaknesses and odds. Believers say that numerology make you achieve whatever you want in life, and not just infants, a lot of people change their names in the later stages of their life too after realizing the problems they are suffering in their lives and in order to fight against them. This concept of Numerology was initially brought up by the Babylonians but gradually everyone started practicing it and eventually it became so popular and effective that now it is practiced across almost all over the world. There might be no scientific proofs about the authenticity of these numerology charts, but people still have faith in ample numbers about the relationship of words and numbers.

People also believe that in Numerology the on goings and the redemption is based upon three major factors; the date of birth, the name given to you on your birth and the name you use currently. The third factor can well be managed according to the needs and necessary requirements by the Numerology charts. There are ways to work over your names even if you’re a grown up in order to get over the grey shades you are going through in your personal lives. So everyone needs to go through that Numerology chart while assessing their young ones with new names.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will sell better because of 3DS version, says Nintendo

Super Smash Bros. screenshot

Momentum for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U grows with each new sale of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata believes.

"As for bringing the Super Smash Bros. franchise into multiplatform format and releasing the Nintendo 3DS version first, there had been scepticism that each would end up consuming the demand for the other or it would weaken a key title for the Wii U platform," Iwata explained during Nintendo's semi-annual financial results briefing. "We now have a strong belief that our decision is giving the Super Smash Bros. franchise even more momentum.

"On the morning of October 24 in Japan, we released a trailer titled Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 50-Fact Extravaganza. A great number of people watched it online and we received a large amount of feedback."

He added that "pre-orders for the Wii U version rapidly started to increase," following the debut of the 50 fact trailer.

Iwata continued: "Super Smash Bros. is the most appealing when played together with others, and as the two versions have noticeable differences, they will not cannibalise each other. Rather, as more copies of the Nintendo 3DS version are sold and more people enjoy it, the momentum for the Wii U version becomes stronger."

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will launch in the UK on December 5.

Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below will launch December 9 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360, Activision and Bungie have announced.

The new content is priced £19.99 on its own or is included along with Expansion II in the £34.99 Season Pass.

"Destiny was created as a living universe, which has allowed us to improve the experience post launch in real-time," said Harold Ryan, president of Bungie. "It also gives us insight into the things players are looking for in new content. We've seen from feedback that people want new activities, gear and weapons and of course the immensely popular Raid. Iwata has resumed his regular work duties as Nintendo president

iwata11 -

The exec announced his return as he presented Nintendo's quarterly and first-half financial results. He said that though he had lost weight, he was now feeling healthier.

Improved Wii U and 3DS sales helped Nintendo post a quarterly operating profit and expects momentum for Wii U to build over the holiday season.

An unannounced Battlefield title will release in late 2016, EA has confirmed.

The title will follow the release of Battlefield Hardline next March and Star Wars Battlefront in holiday 2015.

While EA has yet to announce further details on the new Battlefield, the game is likely to be Battlefield 5 and be developed by DICE. Given Battlefield 4's release last year, the timing of the release points towards a three-year development cycle.

Primal Carnage: Genesis on hold, but Primal Carnage: Extinction will launch for PS4 early in 2015

primal carnage extinction -
primal carnage extinction -

Episodic dinosaur action game Primal Carnage: Genesis has been put on hold, with multiplayer-focussed Primal Carnage: Extinction taking its place.

Extinction will launch on Steam in November and in Q1 2015 for PS4.

Now in the hands of Circle 4 Studios and co-developer Pub Games, Extinction is described as a "class-based, online multiplayer" action game set on a "mysterious island overrun with prehistoric monsters" in which players can fight as a variety of dinosaurs or part of the human mercenary team.

So what happened to Genesis, which was announced for PS4 back in March 2013.

"Primal Carnage: Genesis began development at a time when the Primal Carnage brand and Lukewarm Media were being pulled in different directions, and forces within the company could not completely agree on which project to pursue," wrote Circle 5's Aaron Pollack. "There was a strong concept for single-player narrative-driven Primal Carnage game, and there was an exciting opportunity to develop a game for the PS4, built on the brand new Unreal Engine 4, but ultimately the project was too large in scope for Lukewarm Media to pursue, and the project was unofficially put on hold at the end of Summer 2013."

Pollack added: "Plans for the brand changed considerably after Lukewarm Media quietly transitioned ongoing management and development of Primal Carnage to Circle 5 Studios, a distributed network of developers and artists that had grown out of the modding community. Circle 5 felt that they were not in a position to pursue the extremely ambitious Primal Carnage: Genesis, but the company saw the opportunity to start over with the brand and to launch a multiplayer sequel to the first Primal Carnage on the PS4 platform with our friends and co-developers: Pub Games, a Melbourne-based team that had previously assisted development of the original Primal Carnage."

He concluded: "If everything goes well for us with Primal Carnage: Extinction we would definitely consider pursuing Genesis. For the moment, however, Genesis is effectively still on hold."

1080p is not important, but experiences are, says Far Cry 4's creative director

Far Cry 4 screenshot
Far Cry 4 screenshot

Whether a game runs in 1080p or not should not be important question, Far Cry 4 creative director Alex Hutchinson has argued.

"It's certainly not something I care about in a game," Hutchinson told OXM while reaffirming a target resolution of 1080p at 30 frames per second for both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Far Cry 4.

"It feels weird to me that people are cool about playing a sort of retro pixel game, and yet the resolution somehow matters. It's like: is it fun, is it interesting, is it new, is it fresh, are there interesting questions?

"With the 4K TVs and things - somebody was telling me that with a 4K TV, to even see it, your living room has to be big enough to sit like 12 feet from the screen. I don't know the exact numbers, but it starts to get a little crazy. I'm just in it for the experience, I'll play a SNES game if it's cool."

Hutchinson says as an industry we shouldn't be focussed on numbers but creating new exciting experiences.

"If our thing is 'woo, the same exact thing you had before, at twice the resolution, instead of a new thing'... A new spin or an evolution, I think is much more interesting," he explained.

He also believes that the idea that higher resolution graphics sell consoles isn't accurate.

"I think experiences have been selling them, and that's your challenge, if you don't have a new cool experience, or a social experience - like Call of Duty sells consoles, even though art-wise, it's not exactly... like Call of Duty to Crytek's games, one sells a metric s**t-ton and the other doesn't," said Hutchinson.

Far Cry 4 launches November 18 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

PS4 Suspend/Resume feature still in development

ps4 suspend -
ps4 suspend -

PS4's Suspend/Resume functionality is still in development, Sony has said, even though it won't be included in tomorrow's System Update 2.0.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com about the feature last week, SCEE's VP of product planning Murray Hume explained that while "there's nothing to announce today, we haven't stopped working on it."

Suspend/Resume was first revealed at PS4's announcement last February, and is intended to allow players to put their console into a low-power state and resume progress immediately from where they left off.

A date for the feature has yet to be confirmed.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare leak is 'a real bummer', says studio head

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare screenshot

Sledgehammer boss Glen Shofield has described Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's leak as "a real bummer" after early footage of the game appeared online.

The footage was broadcast live on Twitch yesterday afternoon after one PS4 user managed to snag themselves an early copy. The footage revealed brand new details on next week's shooter, including a new paintball toggle and a 30 kill streak 'DNA Bomb'.

"We took 3 years 2 make a game. Kept it quiet 4 the fans & it has to be stolen & leaked a week b4," Schofield tweeted. "That sucks. A real bummer. Thanks a lot."

"Stealing and releasing is not the answer," he told a fan suggesting that the leak had given fans more information about the game.

"It is a big deal to us because discovery while playing is part of the fun. It will all be good, just saying."

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare goes on sale next Monday, November 3.

DriveClub owners may be entitled to a refund under Sales of Goods Act

DriveClub screenshot
DriveClub screenshot

DriveClub owners may have the right to return the game for a refund under The Sales of Goods Act, according to entertainment law specialists Sheridans, due to ongoing issues with the game's online component.

Speaking to The Guardian, law associate Alex Tutty explained that "The Sale of Goods Act should apply" to video games software. "This includes provisions that the good is as described and of satisfactory quality. The multiplayer functionality in Drive Club is arguably one of its core components and so as it is not working correctly may be considered a breach of the Act.

"If that's the case the player can choose to reject it – in a reasonable time – and return it and obtain a refund."

The right to return the game remains a grey area, however, due to the publisher's ability to resolve problems via a patch following the initial purchase and consumer protection rules that "were not really designed with these issues in mind".

"If a game does not work as expected but the publisher is then able to remedy that, is there a claim?" Purewal & Partners interactive entertainment lawyer Jas Purewal explains. "If the game does not have certain functionality at launch due to factors outside the publisher's control, is there a claim? If the game does have everything the publisher promised but sheer demand means the online functionality can’t work fully, is there a claim?

"We just don't know the definitive answers to these questions yet. There are consumer protection rules which could be used, but they were not really designed with these issues in mind and, in any event, every case depends on its facts and circumstances in which the court or regulator needs to strike a fair balancing act between the two sides."

DriveClub launched in the UK two weeks ago and has continued to suffer from ongoing disruption to its online multiplayer modes.

Last week, game director Paul Rustchynsky said that developer Evolution had "confidence everything was ready" for the game's launch after successfully running "large scale synthetic load tests with tens of thousands of concurrent users."

He also suggested that Sony is considering compensating early adopters affected by the issues.

While improvements have continued to roll out since launch, Sony has yet to provide an update on when it expects functionality to return to normal.

Dragon Age Inquisition ESRB rating reveals sexual content

Dragon Age: Inquisition screenshot
Dragon Age: Inquisition screenshot

Dragon Age: Inquisition will feature sexual material, including nudity, implied fellatio and some dirty talk, the ESRB listing for the EA title has revealed.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board writes: "The game includes some sexual material: a female character briefly depicted in front of a man's torso (fellatio is implied); characters depicted topless or with exposed buttocks while lying in bed or after sex; some dialogue referencing sex/sexuality (e.g., "'I will bring myself sexual pleasure later, while thinking about this with great respect'" and "The way your t*ts bounce when I pin your arms and take you on the side of the bed..."). The words "f**k," "sh*t," and "a*shole" appear in dialogue."

Gaming doesn't get any sexier than this.

The game has been awarded an M for Mature rating for other content too, including characters being impaled (by swords, naughty) and gurgling/gushing sounds. Oooh matron!

Dragon Age: Inquisition launches November 21 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Sackboy unzipped in LittleBigPlanet 3 PS4 vs PS3 comparison video

A video comparing the PS4 and PS3 versions of LittleBigPlanet 3 has emerged online.

Uploaded by YouTube user EpicLBPTime, the video highlights the differences between the current and last-gen versions, revealing the improved character models and higher resolution textures found in the PS4 release.

The PS4 version also appears to render at a higher resolution than the PS3 version – presumably at the targeted 1080p.

Besides the noticeable differences in character models and resolution, though, the PS3 version seems to do a fairly good job of standing up to the current-gen game, with lighting appearing similar across both versions.

The footage is said to have been taken from the closed beta.

LittleBigPlanet 3 launches on PS4 and PS3 on November 28.

The original Xbox and PS2 versions of San Andreas have both been removed from the platform holders' digital marketplaces, too.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft should launch later this year for Android tablets, with versions for iPhone and Android phones coming in 2015, Blizzard has announced.

Regarding the Android tablet version, a Hearthstone blog explained: "The team has been hard at work to bring Hearthstone to that platform, and is making great progress. We're taking things one step at a time and we've got our sights set on a release for Android tablets, our next new platform, before the end of the year; we've just got a few more mana crystals to polish and some Angry Chickens to chase down."

Development of the iPhone and Android phone versions isn't quite so advanced.

"We're also close to having Hearthstone out to our iPhone and Android phone users, but it's become clear that we need a little more time to get that version right," wrote Blizzard. "While we have a build up and running internally, it needs a bit more work, and we don't feel like we'll be ready to share it with you until early next year. It's very important to us that the phone experience for Hearthstone is just as accessible as the tablet and PC versions. One of the biggest challenges with that is revamping the user interface so it feels intuitive and offers the same quality Hearthstone experience, but this time from the palm of your hand.

"Releasing Hearthstone on iPhone and Android phones is something we're incredibly excited about, but ultimately we'd rather take the extra time to make Hearthstone's user interface on the phone customized to feel great for the platform, rather than a port that doesn't take into account the limitations of a smaller screen."

To date more than 20 million players have dabbled with Hearthstone across PC and iPad. Expect more on the card battler at BlizzCon next month.
