Here's 10 things Avalanche wants to make sure you spotted in the Just Cause 3 gameplay trailer

The Just Cause 3 gameplay trailer was pretty bombastic so developer Avalanche Studios has released a list of ten things it wants to make sure you spotted over the course of the 80 second thrill ride.

1. The Wingsuit
The Wingsuit allows Rico to swoop across Medici at breakneck speeds, using the grapple to slingshot through tunnels and caves, under bridges and down mountainsides.

2. Multi-tether
Rico's grapple has taken a huge step forward, with one of the biggest new features being the ability to tether up to 5 things together in the world.

3. MASSIVE Explosions
Medici is a world that's packed with petrol stations, huge fuel tanks and electrical substations that are just begging to go "boom".

4. Cascading Destruction
The new physics-based destruction system in Just Cause 3 means everything breaks, crumbles and falls apart in real-time, according to your actions – nothing is pre-canned.

5. The "Reeled Hang"
Rico will adopt this unique position when hooking onto the underside of anything in the world, allowing him to unleash chaos from above, even when upside down.

6. Destructible Vegetation
Blowing trees to bits with rockets, smashing through fences and vineyards in buses ... even the downforce of low flying helicopter rotors will flatten beautiful fields of lavender or sunflowers.

7. Monorail trains
Monorails are a completely new addition to the Just Cause vehicle mix.

8. Serious Miniguns
With this gun Rico can carve through just about anything in his path, like a hot knife through butter.

9. Bridge Destruction
You can now bring down bridges too. Shoot out the struts from below, or lay your unlimited C4 on the asphalt to blast huge holes through the road.

10. Stunting
Rico can now walk freely across the top of all the vehicles found in Medici, from the wings of planes, the tops of monorail trains to the bonnets and boots of automobiles.

Mighty No.9 launches September 18 at retail and digital thanks to Deep Silver

Mighty No. 9 screenshot

Mighty No.9, the side-scrolling action game created by Keiji Inafune, will hit retail and digital stores internationally on September 18 and in the US on September 15, Comcept and new partner Deep Silver have announced.

The game had been pencilled in to launch this month.

Retail editions will be available for Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PC, Linux and Mac. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be digital only, whilst portable versions on PS Vita and 3DS will follow at a later date.

The new relationship with Deep Silver has provided Comcept with additional resources to add "significant value" for both existing Kickstarter backers and new players alike. These additions include:

  • An all-new stage including an epic battle with Beck's rival Ray that, upon completion, unlocks Ray as a playable character for the entire main game, adding unique skills and all-new gameplay mechanics. The stage will be available as additional downloadable content, adding huge replay value. This extra content will be included in the retail editions and will be offered free of charge to all backers of the project at the launch of the game.
  • Japanese and French voice-overs have been recorded and will be added to all versions of the game alongside the already planned English VO.
  • Deep Silver will provide localized versions with subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese languages.

Deep Silver will handle the game's sales and assist Comcept in QA testing. Comcept remains the owner of the Mighty No.9 brand.

"This is a great opportunity for Comcept: The partnership enables us to deliver Mighty No. 9 to a wider audience while adding some great extra value to the game," said Keiji Inafune, CEO, Comcept. "This comes with the price of a short delay, but we are confident that the extra content is worth the wait."

Square Enix confirms June 16 E3 conference

deus ex mankind divided1111 -

Square Enix will host a dedicated E3 conference in Downtown LA on Tuesday, June 16 at 9am PST, just hours before the E3 show opens its doors.

"Start E3 right with a dose of some exciting news before the show officially kicks off later in the day," says the publisher.

"What news do we have in store? You'll just have to wait and see."

You'll be able to watch the conference live on Twitch and YouTube.

The publisher also says it will be updating social media with updates from the show floor.

We expect to see more on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Final Fantasy 15, Kingdom Hearts 3 and something on the new Hitman game.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

We're not sure how Nintendo will feel about this as it appears Square Enix has come out and stolen the platform holder's traditional slot. Last year Nintendo hosted its Digital Event live stream from 9am on the Tuesday of June 10. Perhaps Nintendo is changing the time of its event for 2015.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited console beta begins tomorrow

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited screenshot

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited for PS4 and Xbox One will begin a limited beta test beginning tomorrow, Zenimax Online has announced.

The limited public beta will only be open to those who receive an invite, and you'll need to have previously signed up to take part. This will be the only beta for the console game, with the full launch set for June 9.

Not everyone who signed up to take part will receive an invite.

Those who do get an invite will be able to begin tomorrow and play through until next Monday, April 27. The beta will feature the full console version, not a slimmed down edition just for the test.

Zenimax Online also confirmed that players should be prepared for a massive day one download when the full game arrives at retail.

"With the console beta just around the corner, we're sure everyone is interested to know the size of the game client in order to get your hard drives ready," explains the blog post. "ESOTU is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience. At the moment, the client will exceed a 50GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15GB."

Daniel Radcliffe & Bill Paxton confirmed for BBC GTA drama

paxton radcliffe -

Daniel Radcliffe and Bill Paxton will both star in an upcoming BBC drama based on Grand Theft Auto, the broadcaster has confirmed.

Currently titled 'Game Changer', the 90-minute drama will see Radcliffe play the role of Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser and Baxton play lawyer Jack Thompson, "am man determined to do whatever he can to stop the relentless rise of Grand Theft Auto".

Grand Theft Auto 5 screenshot

"Conceived for an adult audience, this special 90-minute drama tells the story of the controversy surrounding the computer game Grand Theft Auto - arguably the greatest British coding success story since Bletchley Park," says the BBC.

"Its triumph was down to a bunch of British gaming geniuses who had known each other since their school days, and at the heart of it all was GTA's creative mastermind, Sam Houser. In autumn 2013 its latest iteration - GTA:V - earned $1bn in its first three days, becoming the fastest selling entertainment product in history.

"Grand Theft Auto offers gamers the chance to step into a fantasy world where they can behave like criminals, gun down rival gangsters and cops, hijack cars and venture deeper into an imaginary American underworld.

"But the violent gameplay coupled with its outstanding commercial success leads to fierce opposition: from parents worried about children immersing themselves in such a violent world; from politicians, alarmed at the values they say it encourages; and above all from moral campaigners, who fight passionately to ban it. At the vanguard of this crusade is the formidable campaigning lawyer Jack Thompson, a man determined to do whatever he can to stop the relentless rise of Grand Theft Auto.

"Game Changer (w/t) tells the story of an extraordinary chapter in the history of this iconic game, and reveals the major impact it has had on our cultural landscape."

A broadcast date for the show has yet to be confirmed.

Godus co-creator Jack Attridge has left 22Cans

godus -

Godus co-creator and No.2 to Peter Molyneux Jack Attridge has announced he has left 22Cans to pursue his own ideas as an indie dev.

Speaking to the Guardian, Attridge said he leaves on amicable terms with Molyneux who many believed had been tutoring the former EA Bright Light designer to one day fill his shoes.

"Friday was my last day," he told the Guardian. "Me and Peter went on a big 10 mile walk and finally said our goodbyes."

Speaking of his time with Molyneux, Attridge explained how the pair first came together.

"When Peter started talking about this new company 22Cans I got really excited," he said. "He said he wanted to change the world. He said he was looking for people with unusual game development experience, to try something different and that really appealed to me. After meeting him he said to me why don't you come along as a designer, but also as his kind of protege. For a good year it was just me and him designing crazy stuff together every day."

"Peter was really good at nurturing talent," said Attridge. "But after a time I realised I was much more of an advisor at 22Cans and I wanted to be able to steer my own ship."

And that new ship will remain pretty secretive for the time being, with Attridge not wanting chat about his game until it's actually ready to show off - something he has taken from his time working with Molyneux at 22Cans.

"I vowed that I'm not going to say anything about this new game until we can show it," he said. "It's really tempting to show it off and talk about it now because we think we've got something magical on our hands. We've shown only two or three people for feedback so far."

He added: "My approach is a result of my work with Peter over the last few years. Peter's a massively passionate guy and he can't contain himself when he gets excited about something. Because of iterative development, an idea can start in one form and take a long road by the time it's done. In spite of traditional PR practices, Peter can't help himself, he just loves getting out there from the beginning and talking about everything he's working on. You see his ideas before they're fully developed and sometimes they just don't come to pass."

Attridge's decision to go it alone also appears to have been made before Godus and 22Cans ran into some media troubles and Molyneux's February announcement that he was stepping down from working on the game.

"It was January that I said to Peter I was looking to leave 22Cans and go off to start my own thing," he said. "I was really worried that it might be perceived that I was leaving the studio because of that. It really is a shame because that felt like such a terrible time for us to part ways."

"I decided that it was time to go off and try my own thing and I explained my idea to Peter who was really supportive. He was sympathetic and gave me loads of advice, he just did everything he could to help us. He signed a waiver so I could start my own company straight away, and he advised me on running a team and a business."

Attridge likened his relationship with Molyneux to a marriage and said the split felt like a divorce.

"While it was so hard to start that conversation after all those years, I think he recognises that it's time for me to move on. He even offered to let me develop my new game in his house. While it was a really awkward moment, it has been totally amicable. It would have been a real shame to leave on bad terms".

Star Wars Battlefront details leak: set during original trilogy; play as Darth Vader

Star Wars: Battlefront screenshot

Update 3: Eurogamer adds that players will be able to switch from first to third-person at will, meaning you'll be able to enjoy a good view of you customised character (gear, weapons and abilities).

Update 2: Kotaku reports that free DLC will launch two weeks ahead of the December 18 opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The new content will be titled Battle of Jakku.

Update: Game Informer has published details of a Star Wars: Battlefront gameplay section it has seen which recreates the Battle of Endor from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The mode shown off is a 40-player setup called Walker Assault.

The demo takes place through the eyes of a Rebel foot soldier, a human character fitted out with a laser rifle, thermal detonators, and a spherical energy shield.

The Rebels are attacked by a squadron of stormtroopers who appear out of the woods. As the soldier takes down stormstroopers Killstreak experience points begin to rack up on the HUD.

An AT-ST also makes an appearance, emerging from the woods, and able to withstand the laser fire from the Rebel foot soldiers. A thermal detonator eventually destroys the AT-ST, met with cheers from Ewoks, who's village can be seen up in the tree canopy.

Now an AT-AT can be seen some 200 feet away. The Rebels call in a bomb strike and a squadron of Y-Wings fly into view delivering a deadly blow to the mechanical beast.

The demo comes to an end when the Rebels rush a bunker, only to be confronted by Darth Vader.

Game Informer also confirms that a two-player split-screen mode will be available, with a partner feature making it possible to share gear and respawn alongside their playing buddy.

A single-player mode titled Battlefront Missions will also provide an offline experience, with Game Informer stating it will likely be a collection of multiplayer battle experiences adapted with new missions.

Original story: The first details on Star Wars Battlefront have leaked online ahead of the game's official reveal later today.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the upcoming shooter will be set during the events of the original trilogy and release on November 17, as revealed yesterday.

Players will get to play on either side of the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire and step into the role of iconic characters from the films, including Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

"We wanted it to feel authentic to this universe," said executive producer Patrick Bach. "You can get into these vehicles, from speeder bikes to X-wings, TIE fighters, AT-STs, AT-ATs. There's a wide range of vehicles that we wanted to realize. The difficulty with a game is that they need to be balanced with the troops on the ground."

GTA 5 sets new concurrent user record on Steam, excluding Valve games

Grand Theft Auto 5 screenshot

Grand Theft Auto 5 has set a new record of concurrent players on Steam, recording 300,452 users on Tuesday, reports GamesIndustry.

The record applies to all non-Valve titles, with both Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2 having previously surpassed the 300,000 figure. Dota 2 has, incredibly, approached 800,000 concurrent players.

The Order: 1886 now has a Photo Mode

The Order: 1886 screenshot

The latest update for The Order: 1886 has introduced a brand new Photo Mode.

Available to download now, the new functionality lets players pause the game to take a photo before sharing it online through the PS4's Share functionality.

Players can also use Photo Mode to play through the entire game using a variety of filters, as shown in the video below.

"Since The Order: 1886 is completely rendered in real-time with no pre-rendered frames, you’re able to play in a customised look from beginning to end," game director Dana Jan said on PS Blog. "If at any time you want to change Color Grading styles during gameplay, simply enter Photo Mode and make your adjustment. You can also reset the option if you wish to play the game as it was originally intended."

The Order: 1886 released on PS4 in February, and while it wasn't the best - or longest - shooter available on the platform, it was certainly one of the prettiest.

A standalone PS4 console currently retails for £349.99 in the UK, but shop around and you can pick up the hardware with a copy of Bloodborne for less than £290.

Kojima was 'fired' by Konami, says Metal Gear Solid voice actress

hideo kojima11 -

Hideo Kojima was "fired" by upper management at Konami, according to tweets made by Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes voice actress Donna Burke.

"Yes don't throw away the Kojima teams work over the last 5 years because upper management fired a genius," Burke tweeted earlier today.

When asked whether she had just confirmed that Kojima was fired, Burke replied: "yes but it's been out in the media for weeks..but it's true"

Burke provided the voice for the iDroid in last year's Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and sang the theme to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain 'Sins of the Father'.

Her comments follow a report last month claiming that Kojima is to leave Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain this September.

It was also discovered that Konami had removed Kojima's name and the Kojima Productions' logo from Metal Gear Solid branding. His name was later reinserted into older Metal Gear Solid titles.

A Konami representative was not immediately available for comment.

A sequel to last year's Need For Speed movie is in the works, The Wrap reports.

The movie will be the second major production based on EA's hit racing franchise, and will allegedly be developed as a co-production between studios in the US and China.

Much of the film, The Wrap states, will be filmed in China and feature significant Chinese talent, with production set to begin later this year.

It isn't yet clear, however, whether Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul will return to reprise his role for the sequel or who is on board to direct. More details are reportedly due to be announced in the coming weeks.

A new Need For Speed game is expected to release later this year.

Square Enix has announced Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the next game in the hit FPS-RPG franchise heading to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Some of Jensen's new skills include the ability to remote hack electronic objects, fire off his nano blade from a distance, and cocoon himself in a nanoshield.

Eidos Montreal has also worked to improve the game's combat systems and boss encounters.

The game is currently without a release date.

Xbox One console drops to £239.99 in Easter promotion

xbox one 1111111 -

UK retailer Simply Games has cut the price of Xbox One to £239.99 - one of the lowest prices yet seen for the console.

The promotion knocks almost £90 off the hardware's usual £329.99 selling price, and marks the latest in a string of price cuts for the hardware.

Some Xbox Live members, meanwhile, have reported receiving emails from Microsoft offering them the chance to "upgrade" to an Xbox One console with Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Evolve, an extra controller and a Play & Charge Kit for just £249.99.

It isn't yet clear how many people have been chosen to take part in the promotion or how they've been selected by Microsoft.

Last week it was revealed that the average selling price of Xbox One had fallen by £138 between January 2014 and March 2015.

Xbox One initially cost £429.99 when it launched in November 2013. The new SKUs, however, do not include a Kinect sensor which came bundled in with the launch models.

A Hideo Kojima Game: Is Konami reinserting references to Kojima in Metal Gear Solid branding?

kojima 1 -

Konami appears to be in the process of reinstating references to Hideo Kojima back into Metal Gear Solid branding.

Branding for Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection appears to have been updated tonight to include the line 'A Hideo Kojima Game', with the game's product page now also featuring multiple references to Kojima.

"From the critically acclaimed director, Hideo Kojima, METAL GEAR SOLID: The Legacy Collection offers the most complete METAL GEAR SOLIDexperience ever," the product page currently reads, later adding: "The 'Metal Gear' series is the seminal work of Hideo Kojima, Japan's master game creator, and the progenitor of the stealth action game genre."

References to Kojima in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes' product pages had not been reinserted at the time of writing.

You can see the differences between today's branding and last week's in the images below:

Konami also appears to have reinsterted references to Kojima in Zone of the Enders HD Collection's product page after it was discovered they had been removed earlier today.

References to Kojima were removed from Konami's websites earlier this month amid rumours that he was to leave the company following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

UPDATE 22:58: Konami also appears to have put Kojima's name back in the product description of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D:

Poor behaviour in children not linked to violent video games, study finds

kids games1 -

The amount of time spent playing video games has a far greater effect on children's behaviour than the type of games they play, a new study has found.

According to research carried out by the University of Oxford, children who play games for more than three hours a day "are more likely to be hyperactive, get involved in fights and not be interested in school".

But that isn't a result of playing violent video games, the university suggests, who says that it could not find any link "between playing violent games and real-life aggression or a child's academic performance".

Meanwhile, playing video games for under an hour a day may actually help improve children's abilities to socialise, with those who play games with a co-operative or competitive element displaying "significantly fewer emotional problems or problems with peers".

Children who play solitary games "were found to do well academically and displayed fewer emotional problems or get involved in fights".

"We can see links between some types of games and children's behaviour, as well as time spent playing," said the University of Oxford's Dr Andy Przybylski. "However, we cannot say that game play causes good or bad behaviour. We also know that the risks attached to game-playing are small. A range of other factors in a child's life will influence their behaviour more as this research suggests that playing electronic games may be a statistically significant but minor factor in how children progress academically or in their emotional wellbeing."

"These results highlight that playing video games may just be another style of play that children engage with in the digital age, with the benefits felt from the act of playing rather than the medium itself being the significant factor," added the paper's co-author Allison Mishkin.

Earlier this week it was reported that headteachers may report parents to police and social services for allowing their children to play 18-rated video games.
