star wars battlefront no wm -

EA will debut the official reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront during a panel taking place at Star Wars Celebration on April 17 at 18:30 BST.

The trailer will likely offer the first gameplay footage of this year's sci-fi shooter, with attendees at the show also giving the chance to see gameplay behind closed doors.

"The team at DICE is zeroing in on the final details for our appearance at Star Wars Celebration and we’re ready to make good on our promise to reveal more details around Star Wars™ Battlefront," EA wrote on its Star Wars website.

"It has been hard to keep these secrets from the community, but we’re excited to announce that we will be hosting a panel at Celebration on April 17th, kicking off at 10:30AM PT, where we will debut the official reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront. Make sure to get to the show early to secure your seat. But that is not all… All attendees will have a chance to see gameplay behind closed doors during the show at our official booth along with a few other activities starting that Friday."

Early gameplay footage shown to retailers earlier this month was said to have received a "superb ovation", with the full game due to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC this holiday.

RedLynx teases 'something surprising' for the future of Trials

trials fusion11 -

What's coming next for Trials will surprise fans, RedLynx has teased - but whether it's an all-new game or an expansion to last year's Trials Fusion remains unclear.

Speaking to Red Bull about what's next for the series, creative director Antti Ilvessuo replied: "Something surprising. We can't quite comment yet, but we are thinking of new things to do and how to do it. I can't talk too much about it. But we are working on how to do new stuff. That and the 100-year secret – it's really not a joke!

"I think the really important thing is that from day one we set out a target that we will keep this game [Trials Fusion] alive," he continued, "and I think it's showing in that there's a huge amount of content and features – and it's not stopping. Players are now really seeing that, and with the multiplayer, we've got some great feedback. It took time to deliver it, but we think we've nailed it now."

RedLynx has already delivered five expansion packs for Trials Fusion with a sixth, After The Incident, expected to release soon. But Ilvessuo hasn't ruled out releasing even more, telling fans to "see what happens in the future" when it comes to DLC.

"So we have six DLC packs done already...," he commented earlier in the interview, "and let's see what happens in the future, but there's still a huge team working on the game. Even though it's out, we've not stopped working on it."

Trials Fusion is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U delayed beyond 2015

The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) screenshot

The Legend of Zelda Wii U is no longer scheduled to release this year, Nintendo has announced.

The game will not be shown during this year's E3, either.

The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) screenshot

"Since I declared at the Game Awards in December that the game would launch in 2015, the directors and the many members of the development team have been working hard developing the game," producer Eiji Aonuma explained in a video released this evening. "In these last three months, as the team has experienced first-hand the freedom of exploration that hasn't existed in any Zelda game to date, we have discovered several new possibilities for this game.

"As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas have continued to spring forth, and it now feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds my own expectations.

"As I have watched our development progress, I have come to think that rather than work with meeting a specific schedule as our main objective, and releasing a game that reflects only what we can create within that scheduled time, I feel strongly that our focus should be to bring all these ideas to life in a way that will make Zelda on Wii U the best game it can possibly be.

The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) screenshot

"So, I must apologise to all of you who were expecting the game by year's end, but we are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority. Instead, our priority is to make it the ultimate and most complete Zelda game.

"I hope to use the added time to make a Zelda on Wii U that will reward you for your patience, so thank you for your continued support."

It's likely that the decision to delay Zelda out of 2015 won't have been taken lightly by Nintendo. Back in December, Aonuma assured fans that The Legend of Zelda Wii U would release later this year when quizzed directly by Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto.

"Yes," he said in response to Miyamoto asking whether he was "sure" it would release this year. "All of the staff members are working together and doing their best."

VideoGamer.com Analysis

With Nintendo expected to reveal its next system - the Nintendo NX - next year, speculation will now turn to whether the game is being overhauled for a release on a next-gen console. After all, it wouldn't be the first time, would it...?

Redundancies as Codemasters closes Japan office

codemasters111 -

Codemasters has confirmed plans to close its Japanese office.

The Tokyo-based office is expected to shut later this month, although it isn't yet clear how many employees will be made redundant as a result of its closure.

colin mcrae dirt -

In a statement provided to VideoGamer.com this afternoon, Codemasters thanked the staff "for all their hard work representing Codemasters in Japan" and revealed details to partner with a "major publishing partner" in the territory.

"In line with Codemasters' existing international distribution strategy for boxed titles, which sees our physical products being taken to market by valued publishing partners in key global territories, such as Bandai Namco for Europe and the Americas, the Company is now implementing that strategy in the Japanese market with the appointment of a major publishing partner in the region," a Codemasters representative told VideoGamer.com.

"As a result of the move to a partnership model in Japan, Codemasters is retiring from its Tokyo office and bids farewell to Miyake San and his team who previously represented our titles in the region. We thank them for all their hard work representing Codemasters in Japan since 2008. Codemasters will announce the details of its new Japanese publishing partnership in due course."

The closure follows a report earlier this year claiming that around 50 jobs at the company were under review, with redundancies allegedly "focused on the company's brand and IT departments" in the UK.

"Under 20 staff" are also reported to be working on an unannounced DiRT title, a figure expected to be significantly lower than Codemasters' previous titles.

Codemasters' next game 'F1 2015' releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC in June. The game will be distributed by Bandai Namco in the UK.

Need For Speed developer Ghost Games expands into Bucharest

Need For Speed Rivals screenshot

Need For Speed developer Ghost Games has formed a new team in Bucharest, Romania, the studio's website has revealed.

ghost games -

The website now lists three Ghost Games studios - Gothenburg, Guildford and Bucharest - with each team expected to be collaborating on future Need For Speed titles.

What isn't clear, however, is whether EA has transformed its existing Romanian office into a Ghost studio, or whether it has simply formed a new Ghost team within the same building. VideoGamer.com has contacted EA for further clarification.

Ghost Games opened in 2011 under the name EA Gothenburg before going on to release its first game 'Need For Speed Rivals' two years later.

Burnout developer Criterion also splintered off to form a UK-based Ghost studio in 2013, with its remaining employees going on to work on a new extreme sports open world racer.

A new Need For Speed title from Ghost is expected to release later this year.

Dragon Age: Inquisition screenshot

Dragon Age: Inquisition's single-player campaign has been expanded with a new Jaws of Hakkon DLC, available now on Xbox One and PC for £11.99.

PS4 gamers will have to wait to get their hands on the add-on, however, with EA confirming the content to be a "timed exclusive" on Xbox and PC.

Kojima breaks silence over departure rumours

kojima 32 -

Hideo Kojima has spoken out for the first time after rumours emerged stating that he is to leave Konami later this year.

In a joint statement released with Konami, Kojima said: "I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain; I'm determined to make it the greatest game I've directed to date. Don't miss it!"

Rumours suggesting that Kojima is to leave Kojima Productions emerged yesterday after it was discovered that his name and the studio's logos had been scrubbed from Metal Gear Solid branding.

It was later reported that a "fallout" between Kojima Productions and Konami had led to communications being restricted at the studio, with senior staff, including Kojima, having their employment status "amended" to work on a contractual basis.

Then, earlier today, Konami released a statement revealing that it was seeking new staff to "lead the development" on a "new Metal Gear title" planned for release after The Phantom Pain.

The full statement released this evening reads:

Hideo Kojima 'to leave Konami after Metal Gear Solid 5' - Report

hideo kojima11 -

Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima is to leave Konami after work on this September's Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is completed, an unnamed source within Kojima Productions has alleged.

Speaking to GameSpot, the source is reported to have revealed that a "fallout" between Kojima Productions and parent company Konami has led to communications being restricted at the studio, with senior staff said to have had access to "corporate internet, emails and phone" removed.

The report also claims that Konami has amended "the employee status of its Metal Gear team", with some senior staff, including Kojima, now said to be working at the studio as contractors rather than permanent employees.

The "power struggle" means that Kojima and other key developers at Kojima Productions will reportedly only have "limited opportunities" to promote The Phantom Pain ahead of its release.

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami," the source told the site. "They said their contract ends in December."

They later added: "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain screenshot

The extraordinary account follows hours after it was discovered that Konami had begun stripping Kojima's name and the Kojima Productions logo from Metal Gear Solid branding.

Konami, meanwhile, claims that Kojima will "continue to develop and support Metal Gear products", but has so far refused to comment on concerns over his name being removed from the series' branding.

"As we have already announced, we are shifting our production structure to a headquarters-controlled system, in order to establish a steadfast operating base capable of responding to the rapid market changes that surround our digital entertainment business," Konami said in a statement provided to VideoGamer.com earlier today. "Konami Digital Entertainment (including Mr. Kojima), will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements."

Konami has yet to respond to GameSpot's report. Hideo Kojima has yet to comment.

Codemasters teases new DiRT game

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 screenshot

Codemasters has dropped another hint that it's working on a new game in its popular rally series DiRT.

Posting on Twitter, the developer said that it was seeking a Graphics Programmer "for a DiRTy little game we've been working on", with the job ad stating that it is "expanding and looking for developers to work on the DiRT and Grid franchises".

Codemasters has yet to announce a new game in the DiRT series. However, earlier this year it was reported that the team behind an unannounced DiRT game had been "downsized" as part of a wider company restructure, with under 20 staff alleged to be working on the title.

The game was reportedly due to be revealed weeks ago with an "Early Access-style release" planned for the "middle of February", but was alleged to have been delayed after the company failed to "secure car licenses".

The most recent major DiRT title, DiRT Showdown, released on console and PC in 2012.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Ascendance DLC arrives on Xbox One/360 March 31

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare screenshot

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's second DLC pack 'Ascendance' will release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on March 31, Activision has announced. Expect the DLC to follow around 4 weeks later on PS3, PS4 and PC.

Ascendance introduces four new multiplayer maps - Perplex, Site 244, Climate and Chop Shop - along with a new directed energy light machine gun/shotgun hybrid weapon and the next chapter in Exo Zombies.

The DLC will also include access to a new 'Exo Grapple' ability playlist allowing players to use the ability exclusively in the new Ascendance maps. Activision says that the Exo Grapple "gives players a faster way to reach strategic vantage points or a brutal secondary weapon to take down the competition".

  • Perplex: Get vertical in Sydney as you fight to dominate this five-story modular apartment complex. Take the high ground or blast through the close-quarters interior in this small to medium sized map. Adapt your strategy mid-match when construction drones shift apartment modules, creating new routes and cover positions.
  • Site 244: An alien spacecraft has crash landed, spilling its mysterious cargo under the shadow of Mt. Rushmore, USA. This medium to large three-lane map allows for any style of gameplay, focusing combat through the space ship’s fuselage and around the debris-littered landscape. Use the map-based scorestreak to crack open an alien spore and instantly enhance your perks and exo abilities.
  • Climate: Fight your way through a futuristic man-made utopia in this lush, climate-controlled enclosure. In this small to medium sized circular map, land and water routes channel frenetic combat around the central island structure. Watch your step when the river water changes from an asset into a deadly bubbling obstacle.
  • Chop Shop: Think fast as you make your way through the black market exoskeleton industrial complex and engage in fast-paced shootouts in this medium sized, symmetrical map. Activate the map-based scorestreak to take control of an Advanced Repulsion Turret that radiates a deadly microwave EMP to help lock down key areas.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare screenshot

"The community response to Advanced Warfare continues to inspire us, and we’re pushing ourselves every day across all the teams to deliver our best," said Sledgehammer studio head Glen Schofield. "Havoc was a great start for DLC and we think Ascendance delivers even more of the nonstop action fans love."

The first gameplay footage of Ascendance will be revealed during the 2015 Call of Duty Championship two days before release on Sunday, March 29.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour still features fantasy courses - including Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour screenshot

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will still feature a range of fantasy courses, an EA representative has clarified to VideoGamer.com - including Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm map.

Confirmation follows some confusion over whether the courses would still be included following the game's re-reveal earlier this evening, with new screenshots and trailers appearing to show a more traditional approach to golf than previously expected.

But the crazy courses will still be in there, EA assures us, with more details set to be revealed as we get closer to the game's release.

PGA Tour's fantasy courses were first teased at last year's E3, with the game's initial trailer showing the player teeing off on one of Battlefield's multiplayer maps, following the ball as it lands nearby a destroyed battleship.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour launches on PS4 and Xbox One in June.

Titanfall 2 announced 'for PS4, Xbox One & PC'

titanfall11111 -

Respawn is working on multiplatform sequel to Titanfall, the developer has confirmed.

While exact platforms have yet to be announced, IGN states that the game will arrive on PS4, Xbox One and PC. A title for the game has yet to be formalised, too, but let's be honest, it's going to be called Titanfall 2. Or 2tanfall. Nah...

"I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or... yeah. So we're working on a sequel," Respawn founder Vince Zampella told the site. "No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform."

Zampella won't yet say whether the sequel will feature an expanded single-player component, however.

"I wouldn't have done it differently," he added, speaking of the original game. "We set out to do it and it was one of our goals. I mean it obviously prohibits a certain group of people playing the game, and as content creators you want to get into as many peoples' hands as possible. We put some single-player elements in there though, and tried to mix it up. Maybe we could have mixed things up a bit better because some people blew right by it and didn't even see it because there was so much action happening around it.

"It's tough, because if you hit people over the head with it it becomes intrusive, and there are people who don't want or care about it. Where does the needle fall? I think it takes a while to figure that out and we haven't figured it out yet."

Titanfall launched exclusively on Xbox One and PC last March, before arriving on Xbox 360 one month later.

DriveClub getting replays & visual upgrades in next week's 1.12 title update

DriveClub screenshot

Replays are coming to DriveClub later this month as part of the game's 1.12 update, Evolution has announced.

Rolling out on PS4 some time next week, title update 1.12 adds Replays to the Single Event and Tours section of the game, allowing players to view replays of the race and save them to their hard drive to catch up on at a later date.

Budding photographers will also able to enter Photomode from within a replay "at any point", Evolution says.

The new update also introduces changes to Drift Mode, increasing the amount of points scored for momentum, control and staying on the track, and unlocks a new car, the Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione, once players reach level 50.

There'll be improvements made to the game's atmospheric visual effects, too, including tweaks to the game's heathaze effect and a new mirage effect, which Evolution says will be "visible on the road when light is refracted by hot air".

There's no further update on the release of DriveClub's PS Plus Edition, though, although Evolution says that it's continuing to upgrade servers to help enable the release.

Multiplayer replays, private lobbies and a higher level cap are also being worked on for a future title update.

State of Decay artists 'hid penises' in game's assets

State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition screenshot

Artists hired to work on open world survival horror State of Decay hid "a ridiculous amount of genitalia" into the game's background that went by unnoticed until work began on the game's Xbox One remaster, Undead Labs has revealed.

Speaking to XBLA Fans, senior designer Geoffrey Card is said to have told the site that the penises were not visible in the original PC and Xbox 360 release due to its lower resolution and lower quality textures.

However, when work began on remastering the game for the Xbox One release, "the enhanced resolution and texture quality brought the penises to Undead's attention", forcing the studio to work on removing them from the game.

"Some of our contractors worked a ridiculous amount of genitalia into the background," Card said, with the site adding that the offending artwork is "not visible in any publicly available version of the game".

State of Decay: Year One Edition launches on Xbox One next month.

Star Citizen's new damage model is probably the best you've ever seen

star citizen damage model -

A new damage model system has been implemented into the growingly impressive Star Citizen, creating what can only be described as the most realistic ship damage you'll see in video games today.

The new system makes use of four different elements: temperature, burn, thickness and deformation.

"Using these four damage values we can make the hull glow with heat, make paint burn and bubble, peel paint off to expose the underlying metal, dent and deform the surface, and even cut holes through the hull to expose the internal wiring and mechanics," explains the Roberts Space Industries blog.

"Rather than the internals of the ship only being modelled in specific locations we now model the internals under the vast majority of the hull. You might expect this would involve a lot of work for the artists, but they've come up with several methods of adding these internals very efficiently and the overall damage state setup is now significantly quicker than before."

Check the video below to be amazed.

The team at Cloud Imperium is also working on optimisations to offload a lot of the tech to the GPU, which should improve the damage model even more.

To grab the skins, all you need to do is play an online match between 5am GMT tomorrow and 5am GMT Monday, March 8, after which you'll automatically be registered to receive the skins by the following weekend.

"We developed these exclusively for our development team," said Turtle Rock. This beautiful molten-gold skin helps identify developers in-game and generally make us feel good about the time we put in to making Evolve. It's bold. It's distinct. It's shiny.

"This skin has never been made available to anyone outside the development team at Turtle Rock – until now. We are giving it to you this weekend."

Additional rewards will also be given away in challenges and community events launching in the weeks ahead, with further details set to be announced on the Evolve blog.

Windows 10 to support Xbox One wireless controller with new adapter

xbox one 3 -

All wireless Xbox gaming accessories will support both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs moving forward, Microsoft has announced.

Launching later this year, a Wireless Adapter will make it possible to use current Xbox One controllers and future devices wirelessly on PC. The Xbox One controller is already supported on Windows PC, but requires the use of a cable.

Support for the controller looks likely to come in pretty handy with news that the ID@Xbox program is expanding to help developers bring their titles to both Xbox One and Windows 10. More than 1,000 independent studios already have Xbox One dev kits in hand.
