Xbox One launched in China earlier this week across more than 4,000 retail locations in 37 cities, becoming the first video game console to do so in 14 years.

To help promote the launch, some of the Shanghai skyline's most iconic buildings - including the Oriental Pearl Tower - were bathed in Xbox green.

"This milestone is significant for both our partnership with China and our global expansion plan. Every new market launch is unique and we're grateful to our fans for their patience and enthusiasm," said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. "We will continue to work closely with our partner BesTV to bring exciting games, entertainment and app experiences to delight gamers across China."

Microsoft says Xbox One is now available in 41 markets and the platform continues to build upon the "most successful launch in Xbox history".

A Microsoft statement on A9VG is reported to state that the console sold 100,000 units at launch, though it's not clear if this figure refers to shipped or sold through.
