The spiritual sequel to Banjo-Kazooie will be out in early April, and although it’s not coming to Wii U it will be arriving on Switch.
Every time we __play a preview of Yooka-Laylee we’re not only shocked at how well it channels the spirit of Banjo-Kazooie, and other N64 era platformers, but how so few people have managed to make it for so little money.
But then most of the developers at UK studio Playtonic Games are ex-Rare, and worked on the original games.
Until now Yooka-Laylee’s not had a proper release date, but publisher Team 17 has just announced that it will be out on April 11 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
If you were a Kickstarter backer you’ll be down for a copy anyway, but if you’re not you can pre-order one for £34.99; with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 due to get physical releases as well.
What you won’t be able to do though is order the planned Wii U version, which has been cancelled due to ‘unforseen technical issues’.
Whether that’s really true or not you can judge for yourself, but development has immediately been moved to the Nintendo Switch.
Playtonic claim to be ‘working very closely’ with Nintendo, and it sounds like the game will probably be part of the January 13 reveal event for the new console.
If you backed Kickstarter specifically for the Wii U version you’re able to move your pledge to any of the other versions, including Switch.
Finally, today brings the reveal of a brand new world, named Capital Cashino, which you can see in action in the new video above.
