The Best PlayStation 4 Games of 2016 (Part 2)

MLB The Show 16

Here’s our next collection of awesome PS4 games that graced gamers in 2016.

MLB The Show 16

Sony San Diego is hitting constant home runs with Sony’s baseball sim IP. The already near perfect on-field gameplay of MLB The Show got refined even further than before. The 11th installment of the ongoing series included a unique take on territory supremacy with its addictive Conquest Mode. We never knew we’d get such a kick out of capturing portions of the US just by taking down rival MLB teams in shorter games. The PVP Battle Royale mode also did a lot to give us some more fine tuned baseball action to get sucked into. And finally, the Showtime mechanic helped make any game’s game changing moments slow down to a crawl and replicate the feel of how a real player must feel during them. MLB The Show 16 gave baseball fans the best representation of their favorite pastime.

Enter the Gungeon

Devolver Digital is quickly transforming into one of the better video game publishers on the current landscape. They got together with the talented development team of Dodge Roll to release a fresh mix of bullet hell shooting and rouguelike elements within Enter the Gungeon (man, that name is pure perfection). Imaging the frantic gunplay of Metal Slug mashed together with the dungeon crawling adventures of The Binding of Isaac. Sounds amazing, right? THAT’S BECAUSE IT IS! Each of the four selectable run n’ gunners come with their own special abilities and a varied selection of weapons to go ham with. The chaotic rooms contained within each floor of the Gungeon is jam packed with baddies to blast away and tons of enemy projectiles to avoid. Enter the Gungeon is a ripping good time.

Overwatch

Taken from Game Review: It’s Overwatch’s potential longevity that adds such a mass appeal to it. It has been awhile since fans have been able to confidently sink their teeth into a new game knowing that there’s going to be a huge community and support around it. Luckily, it appears as though Blizzard is putting many of its chips on Overwatch, with the promise of free content updates in the future that will add more characters and modes to the game. Overwatch should be considered the first multiplayer masterpiece of the Xbox One/PS4 era. And honestly, if no other quality game were to release for the rest of 2016, I’d still be able to call 2016 one of the best years in gaming, thanks to Overwatch.
