‘Pokemon Go’ is available for iOS and Android devices. (Niantic)
In the newest Pokemon Go update, Steelix can now be evolved from Onix.
This comes as Niantic has added over 80 second generation Pokemon to the free-to-play mobile game in what is by far the largest update to date. In addition to all the Pokemon you can now go out and catch in the wild, you can also evolve some generation one Pokemon into generation two Pokemon.
One of those is Onix, a creature which can now be evolved into Steelix. In order to obtain Steelix, you first will need 50 Onix Candy.
That’s not all, though: you also need to acquire an item called a Metal Coat, as both this and the 50 Onix Candy are required if you want to evolve Onix. A Metal Coat is one of several evolution items that you can only receive from visiting PokeStops. They aren’t given out too often, so you’ll just have to keep visiting more and more PokeStops until you’re finally lucky enough to come across a Metal Coat.
Once you use an evolution item, it’s gone forever, and so you will need one Metal Coat for every Onix evolution. A Metal Coat can also be used to evolve Scyther into Scizor.
Via Reddit, here’s a look at what the evolution screen for Onix, and Steelix itself, looks like:
Steelix!! Got the metal coat after spinning around 50 pokestops at school and on my bus route. Similar ratios for others? from TheSilphRoad
