The morning Inbox is not keen on the idea of Call Of Duty movie universe, as one reader asks for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2.

Room for improvement
I see that the challenge for someone to write in who hates Zelda: Breath Of The Wild has had a predictably small take-up. But as GC themselves always point out 10/10 doesn’t mean a game is perfect and I can already think of many ways I’d like them to improve the game.
There are little things like adding a recipe book and moving the stamina bar. But I’d also like them to change the way the weapons work. Having them break is fine, but I think it happens too quickly and there should be some way to improve them yourself or repair them. Nintendo obviously don’t want one weapon to dominate, but I don’t think that has to mean that they just don’t last.
On the bigger side of things I’d like to see more and bigger dungeons. The ones in the game are okay, but two of them are very easy and all of them are quite small. They also all have the same visual design, as do the shrines. I’d like to see a lot more diversity in this and more themes than just tilt/rotate the dungeon. I’m sure that was a question of time, and they wanted to concentrate on the overworld but that’s what sequels are for.
What does everyone else think? It’s tempting to ask for the return of items like the hookshot too, maybe it’s best not to just try and bring everything back but keep forging new ideas.

Connected universe
The idea of Call Of Duty cinematic universe just sounds like the dumbest thing imaginable. Marvel works as a cinematic universe because the comics already were connected and they’re filled with really memorable and distinct characters. Even then it took a lot of careful work to sort out, and you have to look at DC to see how badly it can go even when you have the same solid foundation (better really, considering has access to all its characters).
Although it was kind of implied by the story I think this just smacks of desperation because the games aren’t what they once were in terms of popularity. I mean how does a WWII TV show even work? Ignoring the budgetary problems, how would it differ from something like Band of Brothers? The whole point is the games are based on real life so how will we not have seen this all before?
The future stuff is obviously out for several obvious reasons but I don’t see how something like Modern Warfare is going to work either. Those plots are usually pretty unsavoury Tom Clancy style fantasies and I’m not sure anyone wants to watch that __play out for a two-hour movie. The major issue though is that if I want to watch Call Of Duty I can just jump on Twitch or YouTube. Or I can go one better and just __play it myself. The idea of a movie just has zero appeal, and I’d be interested in hearing from anyone that feels differently.

Killer app
I’ve been playing Mass Effect: Andromeda for a week or so now and despite being a huge fan of the original games I’m struggling to stay positive about it. The shooting and driving is definitely better, but I just can’t bring myself to care about any of the characters or situations. And there’s just something about the tone of the thing that just feels “off”.
Like the situation they’re in seems so contrived, like the whole mission had no real planning, and the new galaxy is weirdly empty and small. The game’s always trying to feel more jokey and less serious but it just comes across as kind of smarmy and embarrassing. I know it’s a different team but BioWare has done good comedy DLC before, and my understanding was that’s what this new studio had worked on, but it’s nowhere near as funny as The Citadel.
The whole thing is so meh, and it clearly hasn’t done very well if it hasn’t even outside Mass Effect 2. The worry for me now is that this could kill the entire franchise. Given how EA are it could kill BioWare themselves if they’re not careful. I just hope they don’t double down and try and make an Andromeda 2, just take the L and sweep it under the carpet. If you’re only as good as your last game just make sure Andromeda isn’t your last for long. Are BioWare known to be working on anything else, GC?

GC: The main studio is rumoured to be working on a new IP, which should be revealed this year. They may also be doing a new Star Wars game.

Massively Hogwarts
I was all ready to dismiss that Harry Potter story as baseless speculation, but given the description about British grammar I can’t think what else it could possibly be. Especially not given the existing Warner Bros. connection. A big budget Harry Potter role-player is the sort of thing I would’ve killed for a few years ago, and I’d still be really interested now.
I guess the obvious way to do it is make you a new student at Hogwarts and then have you work your way through the years, maybe bumping into the famous characters along the way. There’s so much potential there, and slowly learning new spells and magics knd of writes itself when it comes to progression.
Then again I wonder if they might be thinking of making a MMO? Imagine wandering around Hogwarts where all the hundreds of kids you bump into are actual real players? Can’t believe that one hasn’t been done before now actually. Although EA had the licence before and they didn’t exactly take any risks with it. So hopefully maybe Warner will.

Back and forwards compatibility
This may be an odd question but I really want to play Banjo-Kazooie. Apart from borrowing an N64, the easiest way for me to play it is on Xbox 360. However, considering it is so cheap on Xbox One (£10 on Amazon currently) could I buy Rare Replay, log in with my gamertag on a friend’s Xbox One and insert the disk – unlocking the games to play on my Xbox 360 through backwards compatibility?
I know it seems complicated but buying it separately on Xbox store is £10 too – so when I eventually get an Xbox One I would have those other games to play as well!

GC: We’re going to say… we don’t know. It sounds like probably it would work, but hopefully a reader who’s actually done something similar can confirm.
Smashing characters
Your review of PaRappa The Rapper made me think of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for the first time in ages. For anyone that doesn’t remember it was basically a Super Smash Bros. clone but with Sony characters, and it really wasn’t bad.
It’s reputation says otherwise, I think mostly because of the way you score points, but I really liked the game. Just as importantly I liked the nostalgia hit you got from all those Sony characters, a lot of which don’t have current games anymore. It’s a shame it didn’t have characters I associate with Sony more though, like Lara Croft, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro, and I always wished they’d do a sequel for that reason.
With PaRappa and Jak And Daxter getting remasters it seems like Sony are getting more interested in their old characters again, and I’d like to see them get more work than just redone old games.

One of many
RE: Yakuza 0. I finished the final chapter last night and if it wasn’t for the flood of great games at the moment it would be my game of the year. Enjoyable side missions, a great cast of characters, and I enjoyed the fighting system (arcadey but fun).
The last chapter was a highlight and tied up the story nicely, and the ending has made me want to search out the other games in the series.

PS: I genuinely like the funny voiceovers you get in games like Okami – adds to the charm of that type of game.

Status report
I just thought I would let everyone know how I got on with my Joy-con Repair. I wrote in a couple of weeks ago detailing my issues with my left Joy-Con and my concern that a repair wouldn’t change anything if it was a design issue. The very next day there was the article on CNET which you linked to, so I decided to send of my Joy-Con after contacting Nintendo support.
I posted it off via their return labels on a Wednesday, but unfortunately Parcel Force decided to sit on it for several days and didn’t actually deliver it until the following Monday. Once Nintendo had received it, they repaired it and posted it back to me the following Monday – five working days later. I received it today and after some brief testing it does indeed seem to be working normally now. It even works in the next room!
The one upside is that it forced me to buy the Pro Controller, which I had been holding out on buying, so I wouldn’t have to miss out on Zelda while I waited for the repair and that is fantastic, much more comfortable and usable than the Joy-Cons. So for any readers out there: if you are having issues with your Joy-Con contact Nintendo and send it in, be prepared for a two week turn-around time realistically, and treat yourself to a Pro Controller in the meantime. You won’t be disappointed!

PS: No bending issues or dead pixels yet!
PPS: I also forgot to add that during the time they kept referring to it as a Wii U, as their automated systems aren’t set up for the Switch yet, and that was a little disconcerting. Also, I have been unable to transfer my Mii via an amiibo from my Wii U to Switch, and on trawling through the forums there seems to be an issue where the Switches are unable to read data written to amiibos via European Wii Us but can from the New 3DS and Wii Us form other territories.

Do you think there’ll be a Nintendo Switch version of Persona 5? I don’t think it’s a PS4 exclusive because of any kind of paid-for deal, and it strikes me it’d work very well as a portable. Maybe a FES or Golden edition?
Petro
GC: It seems perfectly logical, especially given the game already runs on PlayStation 3, but there’s been nothing to hint at it so far.
I’d just like to say that I too would love to see a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy game. Wasn’t there a rumour about Telltale doing one a while back?
Sully
GC: Quite a while back. We asked them about it at the time though and they denied any interest. There is a brief Easter egg style reference in the Lego Dimensions intro though.
This week’s Hot Topic
The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Onibee, who asks what’s your dream game and how close have developers come to making something similar?
Everyone has a dream game that they’ve always imagined would one day be made, but how close has reality got to your imagination? If it’s still some way off is it because technology isn’t advanced enough yet, or is there some other problem – like a licence or an untenable sequel?
If your dreams have been fulfilled, more or less, how close does the real game get to what you imagined? Is it as much fun as you hoped and what would you change in the future?
